Circular Economy, Novel Style.

Novel creative, Lauren McCrostie is at it again. Her latest article is all about circular economy and how we keep the circle going in our own novel way. Read all about it.

The longer I have to think about it, the more I am accustomed to believe that circular things really are the very best things. There is of course the revolutionary creation of the wheel back in 3500 B.C, which provided transport for ancient Greek chariots. Another successful variation of this shape, was the making of structures like the water wheel - used for spinning threads into material during the industrial revolution. Albert Hall, home to many of the most talent creatives of past and present is in the round, the boundless fun a humble playing ball provides; the aid a hand band can lend a person’s uncooperative mane; the knowledge a Google Home dome can beseech you with; The wealth of coins; the beauty of diamonds; the deliciousness of Oreos. It seems everything good; really is the form of a circle.

It is of no surprise then, that a circular economy would reap similar successes. The Ellen Macarthur Foundation outlines the concept as aiming “to redefine growth, focusing on positive society-wide benefits”. A Circular Economy simply means moving away from our current systems, [which are depleting and damaging finite natural resources] towards removing waste - or rather using the ‘waste’ generated. For example, the model would call for some biologically-based materials that have been made to be given back to the system, through means like composting to replenish and restore the soil. Technical models of the cycle would imitate the same method, but instead of composting they would employ the actions of reuse, repair, remanufacturing. The 'circular economy' relies on renewable energy as its feed by seeing the value in our ‘waste’.

As well as the regeneration of our natural environment, this model provides companies with a dependable ‘fuel’ to create their assets with. It would create vast, accumulative benefits to the economy and a wealth of new jobs. Companies would also be able to assess and improve the performance of their products with a more communal exchange. It seems crystal clear that this is a no brainer, but in order for it to effectively occur we must all change.

YES, BUT HOW DO I GET INVOLVED IN A CIRCULAR ECONOMY?

Well, the reLifeCycle segment of the Novel Creatives site lends itself to facilitating this style of economy very well indeed, dear reader. The platform provides a space where you are able to sell and acquire pre-existing items and services from trusted professionals. The life of all sorts of products is celebrated and extended here and the very notion of engaging with it promotes a healthy, thriving circular economy. Using reLifeCycle removes the harm we would have otherwise ensued onto the planet from buying new - making buyer, seller and planet all happy giddy bunnies. The more of us that use it, the more stuff we save from going to landfill!

This tool allows you to pretty much sell anything — from mens shirts to household furnishings, to end of roll fabrics to accessories. By utilising pre-existing items and services, we remove the harm we would have ensues onto the planet by going out and buying new. It's a resourceful, seamless, assemble, harmless model; paradoxically simple and inventive, this way of trading is advantageous to all.

Furthermore, unlike its siblings gumtree or eBay, it's a space likely to be filled with items you actually need as a creative freelancer. Products can come in both quality and quantity across all different realms - meaning everyone will be able to stumble across something of necessity. It's also safe - listings stem from individuals who are carefully selected as members. These members beliefs are harmonious with yours; they want to work in a positive, regenerative, reciprocally beneficial commerce and thus you can trust listings are legitimate and conducive to your work.

This is a wonderful nook of the Novel Creatives website and interacting with it really turns the cogs and coils towards a circular economy. It’s a joy once you discover it has endless capabilities and infinite benefits…so what are you waiting for! Hop on to it!
